Colour Mixing

Primary hues of Red, Yellow, and Blue. If you mix these together, you get:
Secondary hues of Orange, Green, and Purple (red and yellow make orange, yellow and blue make green, blue and red make purple). If you then mix each of the six hues on this wheel with the one next to it, you get:
Tertiary hues of red-orange, red-purple, blue-purple, blue-green, yellow-green, and yellow-orange.

Tints, Tones, and Shades

Tint – A hue with white added.
Tone – A hue with gray added (tending towards neutrality). You can also add some strength of the hue’s complementary colour to make a richer tone.
Shade – A hue with black added.

You can use any of the tints, shades or tones created from a colour wheel the same way you use the pure hues.
